Rena Dorph

Rena Dorph is the catalyst, co-founder, and founding Board Chair for Edah Community in Berkeley, CA. Working with her co-founder, Elana Naftalin-Kelman, and a handful of other parents she led a grassroots effort in 2010 to design a new model for complementary Jewish education committed to experiential, hebrew-infused Jewish learning experiences AND provides full-service aftercare for families. These local efforts have galvanized and supported other communities across North America to also develop new models for supplementary Jewish learning experiences. She also continues to provide leadership for Nitzan: A Network for Renewing Jewish Learning Afterschool. Rena was selected as Upstart Bay Area Fellow to cultivate Edah as an entrepreneurial effort and acts as a co-Project Director for Edah's Signature Grant Award from the Covenant Foundation.
Rena's "day job" is working as the Director for The Research Group at the University of California, Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science where her work focuses on studying learning experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. She holds Ph.D. in Educational Policy, Organization, Measurement, and Evaluation from the University of California, Berkeley; a masters degree in the Sociology of Education from Columbia University's Teachers College; and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Davis.
